William W. Boothe * - Grand Master 1956
William Wesley (Bill) Boothe was born in Starrville, Smith County, Texas, November 23, 1888, moved to Paris, Texas, at an early age and received his education in the Paris schools. He is a member and an ardent worker in the First Methodist Church of Paris. He owned and operated a Sheet Metal Shop from February 1, 1908, until his retirement on April 19, 1953, and is a member of the Chamber of Commerce of Paris, Texas.
On August 13, 1910, Brother Boothe married Florence Isora Moore of Campti, Louisiana. They have two children, William Roscoe Boothe and Frances Ellen Boothe (Mrs. Frances Vaught) and two grandchildren.
His Masonic Record began when he was Initiated in Paris Lodge No. 27, Paris, Texas, on December 29, 1916, Passed January 29, 1917, and Raised March 5, 1917. Shortly after his admission, he was appointed Senior Deacon for 1917-1918. He assisted in the formation, and became a Charter Member, of Lamar Lodge No. 1191, Paris, Texas, and served as its Worshipful Master in 1927-1928, later demitting to Paris Lodge No. 27 and has remained a member of that Lodge.
He served as Grand Pursuivant of the Grand Lodge of Texas in 1944, as a member of the Committee on Work of the Grand Lodge of Texas from 1944 to December, 1952, as Grand Junior Warden in 1953, Grand Senior Warden in 1954, Deputy Grand Master in 1955, and was installed Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Texas at the One Hundred and Twentieth Annual Grand Communication. He is now Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Sao Paulo near the Grand Lodge of Texas.
As a member of the York Rite Bodies, Brother Boothe has served as High Priest of LaFayette Chapter No. 48, Royal Arch Masons, Paris, Texas, as Thrice Illustrious Master of LaFayette Council No. 34. Royal and Select Masters, Paris, Texas, and as Eminent Commander of Paris Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar. He is a member of Texas Priory No. 23, Knights of the York Cross of Honour. He served the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas as Grand Principal Sojourner in 1942, and as Grand Visitor in 1933, also serving that same year as Grand Visitor of the Grand Council of Texas Royal and Select Masters. He has been a member of Dallas Consistory of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry since 1938, and a member of Hella Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Dallas, Texas, since 1920.
Brother Boothe has been a very zealous Mason and has traveled more than 35,000 miles, during his year as Most Worshipful Grand Master, visiting Lodges over this Grand jurisdiction and has visited many, many Lodges in conformity with his slogan, " I Am My Brother's Keeper."
