David Melear - What Masonry has done for me

Masonry has taught me how to be a leader, not only in the Masonic fraternity, but in my church and community. Masonry has helped me to overcome my fear of speaking in from of groups and helped me develop interpersonal skill that have helped to me achieve certain levels of success in my profession. However, masonry has given me something I can never repay; it helped me to develop a very close relation with my father. I may not have had this opportunity had it not been for the fraternity. For the last sixteen years we have traveled all over the state, either together or apart, to many Masonic functions. It gave me sixteen years with one of the best men I will ever know, and after he died in 2008, the support I received from all of the York Rite masons in Texas helped me to make it through a difficult period in my life.
