My best friend at that time father is a Mason and is very active in the Shrine, the way he conducted himself and when he talked about masonry, I was very impressed and interested. I was 19 when I asked him how to become a Mason; he laughed and said I just took my first step, but would have to wait a few years. So a few days after my 21st birthday I was initiated at Waco Lodge # 92.

I married in San Antonio in the early 80's to a young woman who's father was a Mason and Shriner. He was very active and would invite us to all the events. We were at Shrine events usually 2-3 times a month in the spring and summer. As years passed we divorced but remained friends. In 1999 I took a job in Waco Tx and decided to join Waco #92. I had always wondered why her dad never thought I was worthy of joining because he never asked me if I was interested. After I was initiated I realized all the times he had invited us to the events he was asking me. I called him to let him know I was joining and he was very proud. He wanted to come to my raising but couldn't because he was busy traveling. He had been installed as Potentate of the Alzafar Shrine in San Antonio in 2000. Bob Stephens was my father in law, the grandfather to my kids, my mentor and my friend. He passed away in 2006. I know he would have traveled to Massachusetts for my installation as Master. He is missed by many.
