Lewisville Lodge No. 201 A.F.&A.M. "Race for the Children"

Capture.JPG

As we enter into our Sixth year with “Race for the Children”, we are proud to say that past year’s races were a tremendous success. We have increased race participants each and every year, and since its inception, the race has raised over $20,000 for these worthy causes.

The efforts of the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children to help children with orthopedic needs and dyslexia, at no charge to the families, are known worldwide and certainly worthy of our support.

For more information about the Hospital, you may visit their web site at www.tsrhc.org.

We also feel that the educational support of our children is just as important.

Noted Texas historian (and non-Mason) Frederich Eby, said it best when he wrote:
“Education in Texas is indebted to the courageous assistance of the Masonic Brotherhood for their labors in championing the establishment of its public school system at the most critical moment in its history… The evidence leaves little doubt that Masons were using every means in their power, in government, in private associations, in religious bodies and with individuals, to bring about the creation of educational institutions.”

Mirabeau Lamar is widely recognized by historians as the Father of Texas Education. During his administration as President of the Republic of Texas, he convinced the legislature to set aside 3 leagues of land for each county, for the benefit of the public schools in that county. An additional 50 leagues of land were set aside for the support of two universities. The founding of the Texas State Library, and the public school and university land set-asides, laid the foundation for a Texas-wide public school system.

No Texas Mason did more for Public Education than Mirabeau B. Lamar.

Freemasons in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area were just as committed over one hundred fifty years ago when they helped establish the first public school in the ground floor of their Lodge building.

In March of 2007, our Lodge celebrated its 150th Anniversary; this marked the beginning of a renewed emphasis on our benevolent responsibilities and community involvement. There are over 50,000 children within the LISD; our goal is to help as many of them and their teachers as possible. We will be working hand in hand with the LISD to encourage the participation of the children, parents, and teachers. We will also once again partner with the area RunOn! Stores, to gain the support from runners throughout the DFW Metroplex. We anticipate a large turnout and hope that you will join us in our efforts and help us make a difference in the lives of our young people.
