Most Worshipful Brother Land was born on August 6, 1922, in Krum, Texas. He is a 1941 graduate of our Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth, Texas. After the death of his father in Krum, Texas, Brother Land spent 11 years at the Home with two brothers and two sisters, where he received his elementary and high school education. While at the Home, he was a member of the famous Mighty Mites football team, and participated in all sports and academic activities. His freshman and sophomore years in college were spent at S.M.U. in Dallas, with financial assistance coming from the L.A. Pires York Rite Scholarship Fund.

During World War II, Brother Land served as a staff sergeant in Europe with the 84th Infantry Division, was captured by the Germans, and was held in a prison camp until the end of the war.

After 3½ years in the U.S. Army, he transferred to North Texas University in Denton, Texas and received his bachelor of science degree in 1948, and his master of science degree in 1949.

After returning to Fort Worth, he became associated with the State Life Insurance Company, and has been with it for the past 23 years. In the business world, he is past president and member of the Board of Directors of the Fort Worth Association of Life Underwriters; past National and State Committeeman of the Association of Life Underwriters; Life member of the Texas Leaders Round Table; and a National Quality award winner for 17 consecutive years. In civic activities, he is a life and charter member and past president of the Sertoma International Club; past president of the Masonic Home Ex-Students Association of Texas; trustee and secretary of the McCaulay Memorial Masonic Foundation; and a member of the Texas Golden Gloves Double “G” Club.

Brother Land is married to the former Sylvia Ann Holder of San Antonio, and they are members of the University Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas, where he has been a deacon and Sunday School director for the past 17 years. They have two children, David Michael Land (27) and Susan Kay Land (20).

Most Worshipful Brother Land was raised a Master Mason in Polytechnic Lodge No. 925 in 1946 in Fort Worth, and served as Worshipful Master in 1964-65. He received his Chapter and Council degrees in Polytechnic Chapter and Council, and currently is serving his Chapter as Royal Arch Captain. He is also a member of Worth Commandery No. 19; of Moslah Shrine Temple; of Fort Worth Scottish Rite Bodies; and of Polytechnic Chapter No. 420, Order of the Eastern Star. He has been honored as a member of the St. Timothy Conclave of Red Cross of Constantine; holds the DeMolay Legion of Honor; is a Scottish Rite Knight Commander of the Court of Honour; a member of the Texas Lodge of Research, and of the High Noon Club of Dallas.

Brother Land served the Grand Lodge of Texas as Chairman of the Masonic Graduate Advisory Committee from 1970 to 1977; served as District Deputy Grand Master, Masonic District No. 64-A in 1973-74; was elected Grand Junior Warden in December, 1977; elected Grand Senior Warden in December, 1978; and was elected Deputy Master in December, 1979. He has the distinction of being the third Texas Grand Master to be a graduate of our Masonic Home and School in Fort Worth.
